WAEC Extends 2026 WASSCE Private Candidates Registration Deadline

The West African Examinations Council has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series, giving prospective candidates additional time to complete the registration process.
The council extended the deadline to Friday, August 28, and encouraged candidates who had not completed their registration to take advantage of the additional window.
The extension is particularly important for private candidates who may have encountered challenges during the registration process, including payment difficulties, technical problems or difficulties accessing registration centres.
WAEC’s private candidate examination serves students and other applicants who are not participating in the regular school-based WASSCE process. As a result, registration arrangements can differ from those experienced by candidates registering through secondary schools.
The council has also released the full 2026 WASSCE timetable for regular school candidates, allowing schools, students and teachers to prepare for the main examination series.
Registration for private candidates has historically involved a number of logistical challenges, including payment platform issues and problems reaching approved registration centres. The extension provides affected candidates with more time to resolve such issues before the examination period.
Candidates who had already started their registration were encouraged to ensure that all required information had been correctly entered and that the registration process was fully completed before the extended deadline.
The development comes after other examination-related technical issues experienced during the 2026 examination cycle, including challenges associated with JAMB’s UTME processes.
With the additional registration period provided, candidates still interested in taking the private candidates examination are expected to complete the process as early as possible rather than waiting until the final day.
