NNPCL Raises Petrol Price to ₦1,430 as Fuel Costs Rise Again

Petrol prices have risen again after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, increased its pump prices at several of its retail outlets.

A market survey on Tuesday showed that many NNPCL stations in Abuja and surrounding areas were selling petrol between ₦1,395 and ₦1,430 per litre. The adjustment represents an increase of between ₦50 and ₦80 per litre at the affected outlets.

The new prices have been reported at NNPCL stations in areas including Airport Junction, Gwarinpa, Kubwa Expressway and Wuse Zone 4, among other locations in the nation’s capital and its environs.

The development comes shortly after Dangote Petroleum Refinery raised its petrol gantry price from ₦1,265 to ₦1,350 per litre, an increase of ₦85.

Another Increase for Nigerians

The latest development has renewed concerns about the cost of transportation and other everyday expenses.

As usual, the burden falls heavily on commuters and small-scale traders, who have to factor fuel costs into transportation, deliveries and the prices of goods and services.

The price increase also comes at a time when Nigerians are still closely watching movements in the downstream petroleum market.

For motorists, the immediate concern is straightforward: filling a vehicle now requires more money than it did before the latest adjustment.

While pump prices can differ by location and station, the ₦1,430 figure reported at several NNPCL outlets in Abuja has once again put fuel prices at the centre of national conversation.

It is a familiar story as Nigerians continue to grapple with changing energy costs and the wider cost of living.
