Labour Party Disowns Arabambi Over Obi Credentials Case

The Labour Party has distanced itself from Abayomi Arabambi and the credentials suit he recently initiated against Peter Obi. They further stated that Arabambi was no longer a member of the Labour Party and had no mandate to lead any legal challenge against the candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in court.

The suit alleges that Peter Obi’s qualifications as a candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress are falsified and seeks the intervention of WAEC, University of Nigeria Nsukka, and the National Youth Service Corps.

Labour Party spokespersons further clarified that the legal challenge was not sanctioned by the party and that the litigation was a private matter.

On social media, the clarification drew mixed reactions. Obi supporters argued that the case had been disowned by the Labour Party and further stated that the case against Obi’s qualification was baseless and would face staunch opposition.

Court Case Draws Political Attention

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja is set to review the documents submitted by Arabambi challenging Obi’s qualification and will hear initial arguments. Arabambi has yet to respond to the statement issued by the Labour Party.

In the meantime, in the opposition, the case and the Labour Party’s swift disownership of it have been interpreted as yet another fallout in the post-election cycle.

Further instructions have been sent to state Labour officials to disregard any further comments by Abayomi Arabambi in the Labour Party’s name. It appears that the Labour leadership acted quickly to prevent further speculation and conjecture from taking hold.

The development adds another layer to the political disagreements surrounding the opposition, as the court process and the party’s position continue to attract attention.
