Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after a six-day trip to New York, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Shettima Represented Tinubu at UNGA
Shettima travelled to New York after President Tinubu mandated him to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st UNGA. The delegation included senior government officials and governors.
During the UNGA week, Shettima was scheduled to present Nigeria’s national statement and participate in high-level engagements connected to the country’s diplomatic and development priorities.
His return comes as Nigeria prepares for its 66th Independence anniversary and as President Tinubu is expected to return to the country from Europe.
The UN General Assembly provided Nigeria with an opportunity to engage other governments and international institutions on issues affecting the country and the wider African continent.
Shettima’s trip took place against the backdrop of intense diplomatic activity in New York, where world leaders and senior government officials gathered for the annual General Assembly session.
The vice president’s return also restores him to his regular duties at home after spending several days representing the president abroad.
