Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed a forest guard and three other residents during a deadly raid on Zah community in Yadul District of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The latest assault adds to a series of attacks that have repeatedly targeted communities in Hong LGA, an area considered vulnerable because of its proximity to the Sambisa Forest, a long-standing hideout for insurgent groups.
Terrorists Storm Community, Kill Four Residents
According to reports, the attackers invaded Zah on Monday evening, July 27, riding motorcycles and firing indiscriminately as they entered the community.
Residents said the gunmen set several houses ablaze and opened fire on civilians, resulting in the deaths of four people. Among those killed was a forest guard who had been helping to protect the community against terrorists and other criminal elements.
The attack also left several properties destroyed, forcing many residents to flee for safety.
Woman Abducted During the Attack
In addition to the killings, the insurgents reportedly abducted a middle-aged woman before security operatives arrived at the scene.
Security personnel later engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat from the community before causing further casualties.
The condition of the abducted woman remains unknown.
Security Reinforcement Restores Calm
Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Aliyu Saad Yerima Hong, confirmed the attack and said additional security personnel had been deployed to the area to restore order.
He urged residents to remain alert, cooperate with security agencies, and immediately report any suspicious movement within their communities.
The council chairman also commended the swift response of security operatives, noting that their intervention prevented the attack from becoming even more devastating.
Communities across Hong LGA have continued to face recurring attacks from Boko Haram insurgents over the years, with residents frequently calling for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
