2027 Election: Rufai Oseni Says Presidential Candidates Who Avoid TV Interviews Are Not Ready to Serve Nigerians

As political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has stated that any presidential candidate who refuses to grant television interviews or engage with the media is unlikely to serve Nigerians effectively if elected.

The media personality made the remark in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he argued that leaders seeking the country’s highest office should be willing to answer questions from journalists and the public.

According to Rufai, any presidential aspirant who considers themselves too important to appear for a television interview may also see themselves as being above the citizens they hope to govern.

“Any presidential candidate that is too big to appear for an interview on television will never serve Nigerians well. Such persons will be too big for the people, especially those that will never debate,” he wrote.

Debate Over Candidate Accessibility Intensifies

Rufai’s comments come as conversations surrounding transparency, accountability, and public engagement continue to dominate discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Political observers have increasingly emphasized the importance of presidential debates, media interviews, and direct interactions with voters, arguing that they allow Nigerians to evaluate candidates’ policies, leadership style, and readiness for office.

His statement is expected to fuel further debate over whether presidential hopefuls should be required to participate in televised interviews and debates before Election Day.

INEC Releases Presidential Candidates’ Credentials

Meanwhile, preparations for the 2027 general election continue across the country.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already published the credentials and personal details of presidential candidates and their running mates, marking another major step in the electoral process.

With campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months, Nigerians are closely watching the candidates’ public appearances, policy proposals, and willingness to engage directly with citizens through interviews, debates, and other public forums.
