WAFU B U-20 Championship: Burkina Faso Top Group B as Nigeria’s Flying Eagles Advance to Semi-Finals

Burkina Faso secured first place in Group B of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after defeating Nigeria 2-0 in the final group-stage match on Sunday.
The victory ensured Burkina Faso finished at the top of the standings with seven points, while Nigeria’s Flying Eagles also advanced to the semi-finals despite suffering their first defeat of the tournament.
Burkina Faso Finish Group Stage Unbeaten
Burkina Faso wrapped up an impressive group-stage campaign with two wins and one draw from three matches.
Their commanding 2-0 victory over Nigeria proved enough to secure top spot in Group B, finishing with seven points and maintaining an unbeaten record heading into the knockout stage.
The West African side will now enter the semi-finals full of confidence as they continue their push for the championship title.
Flying Eagles Reach Semi-Finals Despite Defeat
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles ended the group stage in second place with six points after winning their opening two fixtures before falling to Burkina Faso.
Although the loss denied Nigeria the chance to finish top of the group, Aliyu Zubairu’s side had already done enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Flying Eagles will now shift their attention to the knockout rounds, where they hope to bounce back and keep their title ambitions alive.
Ghana and Togo Crash Out
Ghana’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals came to an end after finishing third in the group with just two points from three matches.
Togo also failed to qualify, ending the competition at the bottom of Group B with one point after a difficult campaign.
Both nations have now been eliminated from the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
