Davido Banned From Performing in Edo After Clash With Governor Okpebholo
Afrobeats star Davido has reportedly been barred from performing in Edo State following his heated public exchange with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
The dispute began during the campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji. At the time, Governor Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, questioning his administration and even taking a swipe at his dancing.
Davido, who is known for his close relationship with Governor Adeleke, fired back at Okpebholo on social media. The singer mocked the Edo governor by sharing his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result.
The exchange escalated after Adeleke emerged victorious in the Osun election. In an interview with News Central, Davido made it clear that he had no intention of apologising to Okpebholo.
The singer argued that the governor had no justification for attacking Adeleke, whom Davido described as a sitting governor performing better than his Edo counterpart.
Davido later took the confrontation a step further in an open letter posted on Instagram, challenging Okpebholo to be ready for him.
The controversy has now reportedly spilled beyond social media, with Davido allegedly banned from performing in Edo State.
The development has generated fresh reactions among fans and followers, particularly because Davido remains one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars and regularly performs at major events across the country.
The dispute also highlights how political disagreements involving celebrities can quickly move from online exchanges into real-world consequences, especially when prominent entertainers openly take sides in political battles.
