New corps members tasked with spearheading Nigeria unity drive at Plateau orientation camp

According to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the National Youths Service Corps offers a long-lasting platform for national cohesion and cooperation. During the orientation exercise for the 2026 Batch “A” Stream II corps members’ swearing-in ceremony on Friday, Mutfwang made this declaration.

According to Mr. Kenneth Buenyen, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the governor claimed that corps members were more than just participants in the one-year service program.

He described corps members as ambassadors of unity, agents of national unification, and catalysts for social and economic progress.

Mutfwang gave the newly sworn-in corps members instructions to adhere to the scheme’s bylaws and pay close attention to all course content during the orientation exercise.

In order to prepare them for the service year and beyond, the governor asked them to instill in them the virtues of independence, discipline, patriotism, and leadership. He told you, “Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service and perform your duties with diligence.”

In order to portray themselves as reliable and positive change agents, he advised them to steer clear of all kinds of misinformation, divisive tales, and viewpoints that might jeopardise the country’s unity.

“Let me reassure you that my administration’s top priority are your safety and wellbeing,” Mutfwang told the corps members, assuring them that his administration was working nonstop with security agencies to maintain the peace and stability that had been restored in the state.

We will continue to collaborate closely with all relevant security authorities to safeguard peace and stability throughout the state. He said.

Mutfwang urged the corps members to perform their duties diligently, wear their NYSC uniforms with pride, and behave honourably and responsibly.

Mr. Jonathan Yavala, NYSC State Coordinator, had earlier urged the just inducted corps members to fully engage in all camp activities, particularly the skills acquisition program.

The skills would prepare students for the responsibilities of the service year and beyond, according to Yavala.

The state coordinator commended the Plateau administration for its steadfast support of the NYSC program.

1,773 corps members registered for the batch, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
