Asu Ekiye Announces End of 28-Year Marriage to Kunemofa
Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced that his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu, has come to an end.
The Bayelsa-born musician, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” made the announcement in a Facebook post, revealing that the marriage actually ended about a year ago.
Ekiye said he waited before making the development public, explaining that he needed time to process the deeply personal change and arrive at a place of acceptance.

In his statement, the gospel singer described his 28-year marriage as a significant journey filled with growth, experiences and reflection.
He said he had decided to close that chapter of his life with gratitude and dignity while looking forward to what lies ahead.
“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end.”
Ekiye added that some chapters, regardless of how meaningful they may have been, eventually reach their end.
He said his focus now is on moving forward and embracing a new phase of his life.
Gospel Singer Says Marriage Ended a Year Ago
Ekiye also made it clear that the separation was not recent, stating that the marriage had ended a year before his public announcement.
According to him, he intentionally kept the matter private while allowing himself time to gain perspective and clarity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago,” he stated.
The singer explained that he chose to speak publicly only after reaching what he described as a period of “quiet acceptance” following the personal transition.
His decision reflects an effort to address the matter with restraint rather than turning the end of the long-standing marriage into a public spectacle.
