Army holds burial for Brig. Gen. Braimah and others killed in an attack in Borno

Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other troops slain in a recent rebel attack in Borno State were buried by the Nigerian Army on Wednesday. The officers and soldiers were buried in Maiduguri’s Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery with full military honours.

The Army confirmed the development in a statement, characterising the ceremony as solemn and heartfelt.

On April 9, suspected members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, or ISWAP, staged synchronised strikes on military posts in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, killing the fallen troops.

According to the Army, the burial was held in honour of the soldiers’ sacrifice and service while doing their duties.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, and other high-ranking military officials were present.

They referred to the dead as patriots who gave their lives to protect the nation. Citations describing their service were read in front of their families, and prayers were said for their souls’ rest.

The loss, according to the Army, emphasises the dangers that soldiers in continuing counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast face.
