Women Demand More Legislative Seats And Appointments By Storming The Offices Of House Of Representatives Members In Abia (Photos)

Two members of the House of Representatives from Abia State, Obi Aguocha and Mascot Ikwechegh, have had women from various advocacy groups visit their district offices to demand more representation of women in state and federal legislative bodies.
Among other organisations, the women were selected from the League of Women Voters, the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the National Association of Muslim Women, and the People with Disabilities.
Before travelling to Aba to submit their complaint at the office of Mascot Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, the big group of women first brought their demand to the Umuahia office of Obi Aguocha, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
Speaking on the advocacy, Njideka Aniawonwa, the Chairperson of FIDA in Abia State, voiced her dissatisfaction with the National Assembly for delaying the Special Seats Bill for Women’s passage.

The women, clutching green leaves, claimed to have come to ask the members of the Abia House of Representatives to support the bill’s passage.
They said that, despite their enormous numbers, women are under-represented in matters of governance and that, if the bill were to succeed, it would improve inclusivity in all levels of government.
Mr. Sunny Amabo pledged to deliver the message to Mascot Ikwechegh after receiving it from the women in Aba.
