Police arrest vandals, recover N400m worth of railway assets

According to the Nigeria Police Force, suspects in widespread vandalism of vital national infrastructure have been apprehended by the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad, or FID-STS. Additionally, the police reported that they had found vandalised railway supplies worth more than N400 million.
Following reliable information, the suspects, Ahmed Adamu, 22, and Chisom Goodnews, 32, were taken into custody in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, on April 9, 2026, at around 1800 hours.
A trailer truck carrying almost sixty tonnes of vandalised railway tracks and sleepers was intercepted as a result of the operation, according to a statement issued by DCP Anthony Okonkwo Placid, Force Public Relations Officer.
“While being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State, the materials were purposefully hidden under sacks of groundnut shells to avoid detection,” the statement stated.
According to the report, preliminary investigations showed that the truck driver was hired for N2.5 million to deliver the vandalised goods, and additional results point to an orchestrated supply chain connected to recipients of such stolen infrastructure.
In an attempt to undermine the investigation and obtain the release of the suspects and exhibits, an offer of N100 million was allegedly rejected by the operation’s participants, according to the Police.
The trailer truck that was used to transport the goods has been found, and investigations are still underway to recover other exhibits and capture more syndicate members, including the intended recipients.
According to the statement, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police, praised the officers for their bravery, self-control, and incorruptibility, pointing out that these actions represent the Force’s fundamental principles.
