Kebbi ASUU Gives FUAZ Management 21-Day Deadline Over Unpaid Salary Increase, Allowances

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the management and Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru (FUAZ), Kebbi State, over the alleged failure to implement the 2025 agreement reached between the union and the Federal Government.
The notice, which took effect on July 29, 2026, followed a special congress held by the union on July 28, where members unanimously resolved to embark on industrial action if their demands remain unmet before the deadline expires.
The congress was attended by members of the ASUU National Visitation Team alongside the Coordinator of the union’s Sokoto Zone.
ASUU Accuses FUAZ Authorities of Ignoring 2025 Agreement
In a statement signed by the branch chairperson, Danbauchi Senchi, the union accused the university management of refusing to implement the provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement despite official directives requiring compliance.
According to ASUU, the agreement, which was signed in December 2025 after prolonged negotiations, approved a 40 percent salary increase for academic staff and the payment of several outstanding financial entitlements owed to lecturers across federal universities.
The union alleged that while the Federal Government released funds to institutions for implementation, FUAZ lecturers are yet to benefit from the approved salary adjustment.
Lecturers Yet to Receive CATA Arrears
ASUU further claimed that academic staff at the university have also not received the five months of outstanding Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) arrears, despite funds reportedly being made available for the payments.
The union described the situation as unfair, insisting that lecturers have continued to discharge their responsibilities in teaching, research, and community service despite the unresolved welfare issues.
Union Raises Concern Over Lack of Take-Off Grant
Beyond unpaid salaries and allowances, ASUU alleged that the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, is still operating without receiving its take-off grant from the Federal Government.
The union argued that the absence of the funding has created significant operational challenges for the institution and continues to affect its growth and development.
Despite these setbacks, ASUU maintained that its members have remained committed to sustaining academic activities while awaiting the implementation of the agreed welfare package.
Union Warns of Industrial Action
ASUU is demanding the immediate implementation of the 2025 agreement, payment of all outstanding CATA arrears, and settlement of every financial obligation owed to its members.
Branch Chairperson Danbauchi Senchi urged the university management, Governing Council, and the Federal Government to address the issues before the expiration of the 21-day notice.
The union warned that failure to meet its demands within the stipulated period would leave it with no option but to commence industrial action, a move that could disrupt academic activities at the institution.
