The Adamawa State chapter of the Labour Party has suspended four of its members over allegations of constitutional violations and insubordination following a disputed attempt to remove the state chairman, Jonah Theman Kalpenge.
The suspended members are Kamalludeen Jibrilla Aliyu, Andrew Adamu, Suleiman Abdulkareem and Tufanus Daniel.
According to the party, the four members were allegedly involved in an unauthorised meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Yola on August 5, 2026, where members reportedly moved to remove Kalpenge from his position.
The development has added to the internal disagreements within the Adamawa Labour Party, with the party leadership describing the reported move against the chairman as unconstitutional.
Labour Party Disciplinary Committee Investigates Allegations
The suspension followed a disciplinary process initiated after the alleged meeting. The affected members were accused not only of participating in the meeting but also of failing to cooperate with a disciplinary committee established by the party to examine the matter.
The State Working Committee subsequently approved their suspension after considering the report submitted by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
The Labour Party said the disciplinary panel investigated the circumstances surrounding the August 5 meeting and established the alleged involvement of the four members before recommending action against them.
Four Members Suspended Over Alleged Unlawful Meeting
The party said the meeting at its Yola office was not authorised and constituted a breach of its rules.
Following the investigation, the disciplinary committee concluded that the conduct of the four members warranted suspension under the party’s internal procedures.
The Adamawa Labour Party announced the decision on Monday, August 31, 2026, as the leadership moved to address the dispute and reaffirm the authority of the state chairman.
The suspension means the four members are now barred from participating in party activities in accordance with the disciplinary action taken against them.
