Sani to Nigerian troops: Eliminate all bandits to curb insecurity

Ibrahim Mahmood Sani, a civil society activist and public affairs analyst, has urged Nigeria military and Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede to step up their efforts to eradicate terrorists, robbers, and other criminal elements operating in the country’s northern area. In a statement released on Wednesday, Sani made the plea amid growing unrest in a number of locations in northern Nigeria.

The Chief of Defence Staff recently ordered troops to use force to put an end to banditry in Zamfara State during an operational visit. Sani responded by endorsing the military’s increased resolve to fight insecurity. In the battle against what he called a “common enemy,” he called on all Nigerians to support the military forces.

He emphasised the necessity of stopping the bandits’ ongoing killings and atrocities.

One example of a person who does not conduct leadership remotely is the Chief of Defence Staff. Sani stated, “His presence in Zamfara, his interactions with troops, and his unambiguous directive that Nigeria must be made safe at all costs send a strong message that the era of hesitation is over.”

Combating banditry requires a sustained effort. “It is encouraging to see that the leadership of the Armed Forces is prioritising both operational effectiveness and troop welfare,” he continued. It requires constant commitment.
