Arsenal Keep Julian Alvarez Door Open as Late Transfer Move Emerges

Arsenal have reportedly made it clear that they are prepared to wait until the final days of the summer transfer window for a chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

The Gunners remain keen on adding another high-profile forward to Mikel Arteta’s squad, despite already making major investments in the transfer market this summer.

Arsenal opened their Premier League title defence in impressive fashion on Friday, beating Coventry City 3-0. However, the convincing victory has not changed Arteta’s desire to bring in another striker before the transfer window shuts.

Arsenal Ready to Wait for Alvarez

Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez has become more realistic in recent days after talks between the two clubs were held on Friday to assess whether a potential deal could be possible.

The Argentina international had appeared unlikely to leave Atletico for most of the summer. That situation has now changed, although there remains a major obstacle.

Alvarez’s preferred destination is reportedly Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid, however, are not prepared to allow the former Manchester City forward to join their Spanish rivals. The club would instead be willing to consider a move back to England if an acceptable offer arrives.

That has left Arsenal monitoring the situation closely.

According to reports, the north London club have asked to be kept informed if Alvarez changes his mind and becomes willing to return to the Premier League.

Alvarez Included in Atletico Squad

Alvarez has been included in Atletico Madrid’s matchday squad for Sunday’s meeting with Villarreal.

The striker did not feature in Atletico’s midweek victory over Malaga, but his return to the squad comes as speculation over his future continues to grow.

His situation has also become increasingly uncomfortable away from the pitch.

Some Atletico supporters have turned against the forward in recent days, with sections of the fanbase directing chants at him during the 2-0 win over Malaga on Wednesday.

Messages calling for Alvarez to leave were also reportedly displayed outside Atletico’s training ground on Friday.

Arsenal Still Searching for a New Striker

Arteta has already spent more than £150 million this summer as Arsenal look to build a squad capable of competing across multiple competitions.

Christos Tzolis, Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa have all arrived, with Tzolis immediately attracting attention after an impressive display against Coventry.

The Greek winger’s performance has already led to comparisons with Leandro Trossard, who he has effectively replaced in Arsenal’s squad.

But Arsenal’s attacking business may not be finished yet.

Previous attempts to land Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior have not produced a deal, leaving Alvarez as another major name on the club’s radar.

Other Striker Options Becoming Difficult

Arsenal’s search for a forward is also being complicated by developments involving other targets.

Juventus remain determined to keep Kenan Yildiz, making a move for the young attacker increasingly difficult.

Meanwhile, any attempt to sign Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi is expected to wait until January after the player suffered an injury during pre-season training.

With several alternatives becoming complicated, Alvarez could emerge as Arsenal’s most intriguing late-window opportunity.
