YOWICAN Condemns Tricycle Rider’s Killing in Taraba, Demands Justice and Peaceful Conflict Resolution

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), North East Zone, has strongly condemned the killing of a tricycle rider in Taraba State, allegedly triggered by a dispute over a ₦300 pass fee.
The association described the incident as a painful reminder of how minor disagreements can quickly escalate into irreversible tragedies when violence replaces dialogue.
YOWICAN Says Human Life Must Never Be Lost Over Minor Disputes
In a statement issued over the weekend and signed by its Chairman, Evang. Jesse Ephesian, YOWICAN expressed deep shock over the incident, stressing that no financial disagreement or misunderstanding should ever result in the loss of a human life.
According to the group, violence is never an acceptable solution to conflicts, regardless of the circumstances.
The association urged individuals and communities to embrace peaceful dialogue, patience, and respect for the sanctity of human life whenever disagreements arise.
Transport Union Urged to Tighten Regulations
YOWICAN called on the leadership of the Tricycle Association in Taraba State to urgently strengthen its operational guidelines and disciplinary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The group also advised the association to increase awareness campaigns among its members, focusing on:
- Peaceful conflict resolution
- Emotional self-control
- Respect for human life
- Compliance with existing laws and regulations
According to YOWICAN, continuous education and stricter enforcement of rules within transport unions could help reduce violent confrontations among operators.
Government and Security Agencies Asked to Take Action
The Christian youth body also appealed to the Taraba State Government and relevant security agencies to work closely with transport unions and other stakeholders to improve safety across the state’s transport sector.
It urged authorities to introduce practical measures that would promote discipline, strengthen law enforcement, and maintain public order, especially among commercial transport operators.
YOWICAN noted that collaborative efforts between government agencies and transport unions are essential to preventing avoidable violence.
Youths Encouraged to Embrace Peace
Addressing young people across Taraba State and the wider North East region, YOWICAN encouraged them to reject violence and adopt peaceful approaches when resolving disputes.
The association warned that while anger may last only a few moments, its consequences can affect families and communities for a lifetime.
It urged young people to become ambassadors of peace, justice, forgiveness, and love, emphasizing that lasting development can only thrive in a peaceful society.
Call for Thorough Investigation and Justice
YOWICAN also called on law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tricycle rider’s death.
The association insisted that anyone found responsible should be prosecuted in accordance with the law to ensure justice is served and to discourage similar incidents in the future.
It expressed hope that the tragedy would serve as a wake-up call for transport unions, government authorities, security agencies, and the public to place greater value on human life and work together to build a safer and more peaceful society.
