Why State Police May Not Solve Nigeria’s Insecurity — Falana

According to human rights attorney Femi Falana, state police may not be the answer to Nigeria's instability unless unemployment is addressed.

According to human rights attorney Femi Falana, state police may not be the answer to Nigeria’s instability unless unemployment is addressed. Falana made this claim on Thursday during a guest appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.

He was discussing the controversial State Police Bill that the Nigerian Senate just passed in an effort to combat the nation’s insecurity.

“I don’t want to become involved in conspiracy theories, and I don’t think politicians should be criminalised.

Since we launched the nation’s reform drive and introduced a novel phenomena, there have been discussions.

“How can we increase the number of police stations? How can we increase the number of police officers without taking social security into account? Why don’t we discuss giving young people jobs? Why do we not help Nigerians who are really impoverished and at risk?

“Creating a state police or local government police will not address the crisis of insecurity in the country unless you address this problem holistically,” he stated.
