Lesotho Music Awards and AFRIMA Seal Landmark Partnership to Boost Basotho Artists Across Africa

The Lesotho Music Awards (LMA) and the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have entered into a landmark three-year strategic partnership designed to transform Lesotho’s music industry while opening wider opportunities for Basotho artists across the African continent.
The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), making the Lesotho Music Awards AFRIMA’s official collaborating country partner and regional liaison in the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The agreement represents a major step toward strengthening Lesotho’s creative economy by improving artist development, increasing industry collaboration, and connecting local musicians with Africa’s largest music platform.
Partnership Opens New Doors for Lesotho’s Music Industry
The new alliance focuses on creating long-term growth for the country’s entertainment sector through talent discovery, cultural exchange, music business development, knowledge sharing, advocacy, and stronger cooperation between governments, media organizations, private investors, and music professionals.
As part of the agreement, the Lesotho Music Awards will actively promote AFRIMA initiatives within the country, encourage Basotho artists to participate in AFRIMA programs, coordinate official AFRIMA activities in Lesotho, and serve as the organization’s local representative.
In return, AFRIMA will provide official recognition, promotional support, collaborative projects, institutional engagement, and additional resources aimed at strengthening the Lesotho Music Awards and expanding its international reach.
AFRIMA to Support Award Verification for Selected Categories
One of the most significant aspects of the partnership is AFRIMA’s involvement in selected Lesotho Music Awards categories.
Under the new framework, both organizations will jointly oversee agreed adjudication and verification processes to enhance transparency, accountability, fairness, and international credibility.
The arrangement, however, only applies to selected award categories, while the Lesotho Music Awards will continue to independently manage its remaining categories.
Lesotho Music Awards Founder Hails Historic Agreement
Founder and Executive Director of the Lesotho Music Awards, Malibe Mahao, described the partnership as a defining milestone for the country’s music industry.
According to Mahao, working alongside AFRIMA gives Basotho artists direct access to one of Africa’s most respected music institutions while reinforcing the awards’ commitment to building a sustainable and globally competitive creative industry.
He added that the collaboration will create fresh opportunities for talent development, investment, industry partnerships, and continental recognition for artists from Lesotho.
AFRIMA Says Partnership Strengthens African Creative Collaboration
AFRIMA’s Chief Experience Officer, Adenrele Niyi, said the organization has always envisioned AFRIMA as more than just an annual awards ceremony.
He explained that the platform continues to build an African music ecosystem through its seven strategic pillars, including music awards, festivals, creative education, business development, talent discovery, policy advocacy, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Niyi noted that welcoming the Lesotho Music Awards into AFRIMA’s network will deepen collaboration across Africa while creating more opportunities for musicians, producers, executives, and other creative professionals.
He added that the partnership will not only celebrate African music but also promote cultural unity, economic growth, and international exposure for emerging artists.
AFRIMA Continues to Expand Its Continental Footprint
Founded in 2014 through a partnership between the International Committee of AFRIMA and the African Union, AFRIMA has grown into one of Africa’s most recognized and longest-running music awards platforms.
The awards are broadcast to millions of viewers through more than 84 television stations worldwide and have previously been hosted in major African cities, including Lagos, Accra, and Dakar.
Beyond recognizing musical excellence, AFRIMA continues to position itself as a platform that promotes African culture, encourages cross-border collaboration, and supports the global growth of African music.
Lesotho Music Awards Eyes Greater International Recognition
Since its launch in 2021, the Lesotho Music Awards has become the country’s leading platform for celebrating excellence in the Basotho music industry.
The awards recognize outstanding musicians, producers, and industry professionals while helping local talent gain visibility both within Lesotho and internationally.
Through its new partnership with AFRIMA, the organization is expected to provide artists with greater access to continental opportunities, international exposure, networking events, and industry collaborations.
Both organizations also confirmed that additional joint programs, artist initiatives, industry engagements, and collaborative projects will be announced over the coming months as the partnership begins to take shape.
