Shakiru Amodu, the agency spokesperson, had previously verified the occurrence in a succinct statement released on Friday.
Margaret Adeseye, the Controller General of the LSFRS, provided additional information, stating that the fire was successfully contained at around 2:00 p.m. A five-million-liter Automotive Gas Oil, or AGO, storage tank caught fire at lunchtime, according to her.
Adeseye clarified that after the distress alarm, emergency personnel were called to the area right away. The coordinated response stopped the situation from getting worse, and no casualties were reported.
“A fire outbreak involving a storage tank at the Bono Energy Terminal within the Ibru Jetty Complex along the Apapa–Oworonshoki Motorway near Coconut Bus Stop, Olodi Apapa, was successfully contained and extinguished by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” she stated.
She continued by saying that firefighters from the Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu, and Isolo fire stations were dispatched to the scene at around 12:16 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026, after the emergency was reported at around 12:04 p.m.A five-million-liter AGO storage tank that had caught fire was implicated in the incident, she said.
Adeseye pointed out that the fire was totally put out by 1:54 p.m. thanks to the quick action of firefighters and rescue teams from nearby oil and gas companies. emphasised that the prompt action prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent storage tanks and vital facility infrastructure.
“The fire was successfully contained through competent and well coordinated firefighting operations, preventing a wider industrial disaster and lowering the scope of potential losses. Thankfully, no casualties were reported,” she continued.
The head of LSFRS also revealed that investigations were still on and that the precise cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
The event occurred just hours after Owode Elede inward Onirin along Ikorodu Road successfully managed another emergency situation involving a tanker of liquefied petroleum gas.
The petrol tanker experienced a technical malfunction in the early hours of Friday, which prompted emergency personnel to step in and prevent a potential catastrophe without any casualties, according to earlier confirmation from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, or LASEMA.
