Black Market Film Targets 50,000-Strong Lagos Screening in Guinness World Record Bid

The makers of the Nollywood film Black Market want to make history by hosting a massive screening of the movie at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on September 26, 2026.
The organisers are targeting 50,000 people for the one-day event as they attempt to surpass the existing Guinness World Records benchmark for the largest audience at a film screening in one location. The current record is reported at 43,624 people.
The film stars Lateef Adedimeji and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, among others, and the event has received support from the Lagos State Government and partners involved in the production and screening.
If successful, the event would become one of the biggest film screenings in Nigeria’s history.
A Different Kind of Nollywood Premiere
Unlike the usual movie premiere, Black Market is being built around a much bigger idea.
The organisers want thousands of people gathered at one location to watch the same film at the same time, turning the premiere into a Guinness World Records attempt.
The film itself follows five market women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation, giving the project a crime-thriller angle.
The September 26 event therefore has two things working for it: the curiosity surrounding the film and the possibility of witnessing a major record attempt.
It remains to be seen if the turnout will match the hype that has surrounded the event.
For now, the target is clear: 50,000 people, one screening and an attempt to put a Nollywood premiere into the record books.
