Lagos Records Three Separate Road Accidents Within Two Hours as LASEMA Confirms No Fatalities

Three separate road accidents were recorded across different parts of Lagos State in the early hours of Saturday, August 1, with emergency responders confirming that no lives were lost despite multiple crashes.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the incidents occurred at Olupese Bus Stop, Aswani Bus Stop, and Oba Ogunji Road within a span of just over two hours.

Emergency teams, including the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police, and other responders, were immediately deployed to the affected locations to rescue victims, clear the roads, and restore normal traffic flow.

Truck Carrying Granite Causes Major Road Obstruction at Olupese Bus Stop

The first incident occurred at about 12:07 a.m. at Olupese Bus Stop inward Oshodi.

According to preliminary findings, a truck transporting granite became stranded after one of its rear tyres sank into a pothole, leaving the vehicle stuck and blocking part of the roadway.

Authorities attributed the incident to the poor condition of the road.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded.

LASEMA immediately deployed its Eagle Response Team to the scene to divert traffic while its heavy-duty recovery equipment, Super Metro, was mobilised to remove the stranded truck.

Recovery efforts were still ongoing at the time the update was issued, while traffic officials managed vehicle movement to minimise congestion.

Three Injured After Sienna Collides With Truck at Aswani Bus Stop

Less than an hour later, at about 12:59 a.m., another accident occurred at Aswani Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo.

The crash involved a Toyota Sienna with registration number ABJ-515DQ and an oncoming truck with an unidentified registration number.

The collision forced the truck off its lane and onto a nearby culvert, obstructing traffic.

Although no fatalities were recorded, three occupants of the Sienna sustained injuries.

The victims included:

  • Two adult women
  • One adult man

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, providing first aid before transporting the injured victims to a hospital for further medical treatment.

Traffic was temporarily diverted while recovery operations were carried out.

By 2:45 a.m., both vehicles had been successfully removed from the scene.

The truck was recovered using LASEMA’s Super Metro recovery vehicle and handed over to LASTMA, while the damaged Sienna was released to officers from the Aswani Police Station.

Following the clearance exercise, emergency officials concluded operations and returned to their respective bases.

Overspeeding Blamed for Oba Ogunji Road Crash

A third accident was recorded at about 1:19 a.m. along Oba Ogunji Road.

The incident involved a concrete mixer truck belonging to the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and a green Volkswagen bus bearing registration number FKJ 424KA.

Initial investigations indicated that the Volkswagen bus was travelling at excessive speed before the collision occurred.

Despite the impact, no injuries or deaths were reported.

Emergency officials secured the accident scene and carried out on-site mechanical repairs on the concrete mixer truck before evacuating both vehicles from the road with a tow truck.

The Volkswagen bus was later released to its owner after the roadway was completely cleared and reopened to motorists.

LASEMA Urges Motorists to Drive Responsibly

Reacting to the incidents, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the coordinated efforts of emergency responders, describing their swift response as instrumental in preventing further disruption and ensuring public safety.

He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and promptly report damaged roads to the appropriate authorities.

He added that the Lagos State Government remains committed to preventing road fatalities through improved emergency response, continued investment in rescue equipment, personnel training, and stronger collaboration among emergency agencies.

The state government also reminded motorists to avoid driving against traffic, overloading vehicles, and engaging in reckless driving, particularly during late-night hours, while encouraging residents to report emergencies through LASEMA’s toll-free emergency lines for prompt intervention.
