In response to singer Ycee comments on her partner, Peller, Nigerian content maker Jarvis has retaliated. According to newspaper reports, Ycee called Peller a “Olodo uprising” when he appeared on the Afropolitan podcast.
He said this while claiming that academic achievement and intelligence are no longer valued in Nigeria.
“Peller culture,” he remarked, citing well-known internet figures like Peller as instances of young Nigerians pursuing fame through provocative content rather than education.
“There is a major Olodo uprising right now. It seems as though we are making accommodations for uneducated and stupid people because we don’t want them to feel inferior, which is why they are now making up the majority.
Nigeria’s educational system is under intense attack. We now have the Peller culture in addition to the Yahoo culture. If we continue to reward these individuals, others will come to believe that all it takes to obtain clicks and numbers on the internet is to say or do anything stupid, obnoxious, or vulgar. However, I have nothing against Peller personally, so I won’t be disparaging him,” he remarked.
In a social media video, Jarvis responded to the interview by blaming Nigeria’s digital content production on the government’s failure to generate employment.
“Government didn’t provide jobs for us, what exactly did you expect people to do?” she replied, defending her satisfaction with Peller.
“I have a degree. You can’t expect highly intelligent people to wind up cleaning restrooms, so go tell your president that. You even refer to my man as “Peller culture.” Please don’t bring your culture here; everyone has their own.
You’re saying that we don’t want an education just because we’re trying to make a living and behaving funny? “So what about me, a university graduate?” she enquired.
