Kano Not a Safe Haven for Criminals, Fraudsters — CP Bakori Warns

Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Kano State Commissioner of Police, has stated that the state will not act as a refuge for criminals and con artists.

Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Kano State Commissioner of Police, has stated that the state will not act as a refuge for criminals and con artists. CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, made this announcement to reporters on Sunday.

He claimed that the warning was given as the stolen cars were being returned to their legitimate owners.

“Following the successful recovery of four stolen vehicles through intelligence-led police operations Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Badawa Division during coordinated operations carried out across Kano, Yobe, and Kaduna states within the past week,” the statement reads.

One of the significant developments was the detention of Suleiman Umar, a suspect in Damaturu, Yobe State, for allegedly using a fictitious bank alert to buy a red Kia Forte worth N9.5 million from a car dealer in Lagos.

The car was found and given back to its owner after the suspect allegedly admitted to the crime.

In another operation, he claimed, police found a red Dalhatsu Sirion that was allegedly taken from outside the owner’s home in Kano State’s Tarauni Local Government Area. While attempts are underway to capture the escaping criminals, the car was discovered abandoned.

An ash-colored Hyundai Elantra that was purportedly taken from a Kano event center was also found by the command. According to police, the suspects fled the area after abandoning the car during a tactical operation in Zaria, Kaduna State.

In a similar vein, a Toyota ambulance that belonged to EHA Special Hospital was found abandoned along Zaria Road and given back to the hospital administration after it was taken along with solar cells and other valuables during an attack on security personnel.

The owners praised the Kano State Police Command for its prompt action and professionalism in retrieving and returning their cars.

The Commissioner of Police issued a warning that Kano State would not be a safe haven for criminals engaged in car theft and fraud.

In order to support current investigations and improve public safety, he also urged the people to keep giving security officials timely and reliable information.
