It has been said that the ongoing by-election in Ondo State’s Ondo South Senatorial District is peaceful. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said the process had been smooth and expressed pleasure with the level of voter turnout across the district’s six local government districts.
The purpose of the by-election is to replace Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN.
The competition is being held in the state’s local council districts of Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Okitipupa, Irele, Odigbo, and Ileoluji/Okeigbo.
Speaking with reporters shortly after casting his ballot in Unit 05, Ward 4, Obenla community, Ilaje Local Council Area, Aiyedatiwa claimed that Prof. Dayo Faduyile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, had conducted extensive mobilisation efforts, which contributed to the high turnout.
He said that party institutions throughout the district would continue to influence voter turnout.
“We want to encourage everyone to come out and vote, Ondo State is safe and we have a peaceful election, God has been helping us, our security agencies are up and doing, and Ondo State is one of the safest and peaceful states in Nigeria,” he declared.
Therefore, even though it’s a by-election, we anticipate voter turnout. After the primary election, the environment is still quite active politically, and our candidate, Professor Dayo Faduyile, has done a great deal of effort.
