2027: New Nigeria Peoples Party sets May 26 for primaries across all elective positions

In advance of the national elections in 2027, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, or NNPP, has scheduled its primaries for all elected posts for May 26. The National Assembly, the House of Assembly, the presidency, and the governorship are among the elective offices.
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Ladipo Johnson, the National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP, said that the party would use the consensus method of election in every ward nationwide. Johnson said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had already been informed of the date.
Additionally, he revealed that INEC had successfully completed a verification exercise of the party’s operational and administrative structures at its national secretariat in Abuja on April 23.
“This exercise’s flawless implementation provides the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Hon. Bala Mohammad, with final official validation.
“It effectively silences the delusions of grandeur harboured by expelled members and reaffirms our standing as the only recognised leadership of the NNPP,” he said. Johnson disregarded the party’s expelled members’ arguments against the NWC’s authority, calling their reliance on different court decisions “shadow-boxing.”
The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a ruling that unequivocally states that these people are no longer NNPP members.
“They have purposefully withheld material facts to mislead the judiciary by failing to bring this judgement to the attention of subsequent courts,” he stated. Johnson expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will finally decide the leadership dispute in favour of the present NWC, accusing individuals he referred to as adversaries of employing dishonest strategies to maintain a failing political project.
He called on Nigerians, especially young people and professionals, to take part in the party’s ongoing membership registration process in all 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards around the nation.
