The Action Alliance (AA) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the immediate correction of what it describes as the wrongful omission of its candidates from the published list for the 2027 general elections.
The party warned that it would pursue every available legal option if the electoral body fails to update the list within the specified period.
AA Insists Candidates Were Validly Nominated
In a statement released on Sunday, the party’s National Chairman, Chief Barrister Kenneth Udeze, maintained that the candidates submitted by the National Executive Committee under his leadership were lawfully nominated and should have appeared on INEC’s official list.
Udeze argued that the omission is inconsistent with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, stressing that the party completed its primary elections within the legally approved timetable.
According to him, the Court of Appeal has already affirmed the legitimacy of his leadership, making the exclusion of candidates submitted by his executive committee both surprising and unacceptable.
He said the party expects INEC to publish a corrected list reflecting all candidates validly nominated by the recognized leadership.
Party Threatens Legal Action Against INEC
The Action Alliance called on INEC to urgently rectify the alleged error, insisting that the electoral commission has a responsibility to ensure that all qualified candidates are properly listed.
The party stated that if its demands are ignored after the 48-hour deadline, it will seek legal redress to protect the rights of its candidates.
AA also appealed to civil society organisations, election observers, the media, and other democratic stakeholders to closely monitor the situation and encourage transparency in the electoral process.
The party maintained that correcting the omission is essential to preserving public confidence in the credibility and fairness of Nigeria’s electoral process as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
