Troops pound suspected terrorists’ camps in Kwara, recover arms

In Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area, troops from 22 Brigade, Sector 1 Operation Safe South-South, OPSS, have carried out clearance operations, demolishing alleged terrorist improvised sites and retrieving weapons. Zagazola Makama, a security and counter-insurgency specialist in the Lake Chad region, revealed this in a post on X.
According to Makama, the operation started on April 24 at around six in the morning when soldiers left their harbour area at Kamenji and moved in the direction of Tungan Mariga. He said that forces allegedly found and destroyed suspected terrorist camps at Nuku village during the operation.
Six Dane firearms were found during the clearing procedure, he added.
He said that after that, the forces went to Woro village, where the commanding officer spoke to the staff and evaluated the current operation.
The security expert pointed out that troops were also outfitted with an extra armoured personnel carrier equipped with a QJC weapon system in an attempt to improve operational effectiveness.
According to the sources, “the operation was carried out without resistance and ended successfully,” he stated.
