Umar Ardo: Atiku Likely Wining ADC Presidential Ticket If He Runs

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will win the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries if he chooses to run, according to League of Northern Democrats convener Umar Ardo. Speaking on Friday during the African Independent Television (AIT) program Focus Nigeria, Ardo claimed to have examined potential outcomes prior to the party’s primary poll.
Although there may be talks inside the party about a consensus candidate, he pointed out that this would necessitate the resignation of important candidates like Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, which he said is improbable.
Only if major contenders voluntarily give up their aspirations in favour of a single candidate would consensus be possible, which could be challenging given the political situation and the substantial support bases of those engaged,” he explained. He continued by saying that all of the contenders, including Atiku, Peter Obi, Amaechi, and others, would need to step down in order for a consensus to be reached.
Ardo thought that Obi devoted followers, “the Obidient Movement,” would strongly disagree with oppose any attempt to force him to resign, claiming that Obi himself might be motivated to do so in specific situations.
Additionally, he stated that while Atiku supporters might agree to a compromise, the former vice president is unlikely to drop out of the contest.
Regardless of whether the process is carried out by direct primaries or by delegates, the northern political figure insisted that Atiku has a good chance of winning the party’s ticket if all candidates go ahead and run in the primary.
“If all of them enter the primaries, Atiku will win, whether through direct primaries or delegates,” he declared. Even if the primaries are held several than once, Atiku will undoubtedly win.
His comments were made in the midst of continuous political realignments and conjecture about possible coalitions and candidatures in advance of upcoming elections, as important political figures were considering their choices both within and between parties.
As stakeholder deliberations continue, the ADC has not yet formally announced its primary election schedule.
