32 Kidnap Victims Rescued as Police, Army Foil Major Bandit Attack in Sokoto

Security operatives in Sokoto State have rescued 32 kidnapped victims after a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army successfully disrupted a major bandit attack in Rabah Local Government Area.

The operation was carried out on Tuesday in Maikujera village, a remote community bordering Zamfara State, after intelligence reports indicated that a large group of armed bandits had invaded the area.

According to the Sokoto State Police Command, the attackers stormed the village, abducted dozens of residents, rustled livestock, and fired sporadically while fleeing.

Swift Security Response Blocks Bandits’ Escape

Police said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Rabah immediately mobilized tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Reaction Unit (VCRU).

The tactical teams worked alongside personnel from the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) to seal off all possible escape routes, preventing the criminals from leaving the area with their captives.

The operation quickly escalated into a fierce gun battle between security forces and the armed bandits.

Under intense pressure, the attackers reportedly abandoned both the kidnapped victims and the stolen livestock before escaping into the surrounding forest.

32 Victims Freed During Bush Search

Following the exchange of gunfire, security operatives launched an extensive search of nearby bushes, leading to the successful rescue of all 32 abducted victims.

Police disclosed that the rescued victims include:

  • 6 adult males
  • 26 females, most of whom are children

The victims have since been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and psychological support before being reunited with their families.

Four Residents Killed Before Rescue Operation

Despite the successful rescue mission, the Police Command confirmed that four people lost their lives during the initial bandit attack before security personnel arrived at the village.

The deaths have added to the growing concerns over persistent bandit attacks affecting communities across parts of northwestern Nigeria.

Police Commissioner Vows to Hunt Down Attackers

The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayatu Shaffa, expressed condolences to the families of those who were killed during the attack.

He assured residents that security agencies would continue pursuing the fleeing bandits until they are apprehended and brought to justice.

The police boss also reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.
