Troy Parrott Rejected Galatasaray Move Over Osimhen Competition, Reporter Reveals
Troy Parrott reportedly turned down a move to Galatasaray because he was unwilling to compete with Victor Osimhen for a regular starting place.
Galatasaray reporter Ali Naci Küçük made the revelation while discussing the Irish striker’s transfer situation on the 343 Digital YouTube channel.
Parrott had emerged as one of the forwards considered by the Turkish champions as they assessed their options in attack.
However, according to Küçük, the 24-year-old was not interested in joining a squad where he believed he would be used mainly as a backup to Osimhen.
Parrott Wanted a Starting Role
Küçük claimed that the financial side of the proposed move was not the main stumbling block.
He said Parrott’s transfer fee was also in the region of €20 million, but the player was unwilling to accept a role behind Osimhen in the Galatasaray attack.
The reporter explained that Parrott’s position was essentially that he did not want to arrive at the club only to sit on the bench behind the Nigerian striker.
That stance ultimately contributed to the forward choosing another destination.
Irish Striker Chooses Real Betis
Parrott eventually completed a move from AZ Alkmaar to Spanish club Real Betis during the summer transfer window.
The striker has reportedly committed his long-term future to the La Liga side, signing a contract that runs until June 2031.
His decision means Galatasaray missed out on another striker option as the Turkish club continues to build its attack around Osimhen.
For Nigerian football fans, the development also underlines the level of competition Osimhen now commands at the top of Galatasaray’s forward line. A player reportedly valued at around €20 million was unwilling to take on the role of second choice behind the Super Eagles star.
With Osimhen remaining a major figure in Galatasaray’s plans, any striker arriving at the club will have to accept the challenge of competing with one of Europe’s most sought-after Nigerian forwards for minutes.
