Davido Reveals Why He Doesn’t Want His Children to Follow His Path Into Music

Award-winning Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he does not want any of his children to pursue a career in the music industry despite his own remarkable success.

The Afrobeats superstar made the revelation during a recent appearance on The Vibe podcast, where he reflected on the challenges and sacrifices that have defined his journey in the entertainment industry.

Davido Opens Up About His Children’s Future

Speaking during the interview, Davido explained that while he deeply loves music, his personal experiences have made him hesitant to encourage any of his six children to follow the same career path.

According to the singer, the entertainment industry is far more demanding than many people realize, and he would rather see his children choose less stressful professions.

He also disclosed that his second daughter, Hailey Veronica Adeleke, has already shown a strong interest in music and possesses impressive vocal ability.

“I don’t want any of my children to pursue music. My second daughter, Hailey, is already leaning towards music. She is the life of the party. She behaves just like me. She actually has a good voice.

“But I know what I went through. Can you go through what I go through? Knowing what I have been through, I’m skeptical about encouraging any of my children to do music.”

Singer Says He Won’t Stand in Their Way

Despite his concerns, Davido made it clear that he would never prevent any of his children from pursuing their passions if they genuinely choose that path.

The singer recalled how his own parents eventually supported his dream of becoming a musician, even though they initially had reservations. Because of that experience, he believes every child deserves the opportunity to chase their ambitions.

Davido added:

“But because my parents and my family eventually allowed me to chase my dreams, I would never want to block any of my children from chasing their dreams. And if they are good, why not?”

A Father’s Honest Perspective

Davido’s comments offer a rare glimpse into the realities behind his successful music career. While millions admire the glamour and fame associated with being one of Africa’s biggest music stars, the award-winning singer says the journey has come with significant personal challenges.

Although he hopes his children consider different career paths, he insists their happiness and freedom to pursue their dreams will always come first.
