Timi Dakolo Denies Owing UK Promoter, Threatens Legal Action Over Defamation Claims

Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has strongly denied allegations that he owes thousands of pounds to a UK-based concert promoter over a cancelled tour, describing the claims as false and defamatory.

Through his legal representatives, the award-winning singer warned that legal action will be taken in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom if the allegations continue to circulate.

UK Promoter Claims Timi Dakolo Owes Over £4,000

The controversy began after UK-based promoter DJ Timmy (Otis Ayodele Kubeyinje) alleged that Dakolo owed him £4,106 for expenses reportedly incurred while planning a UK tour that was eventually cancelled.

According to the promoter, the amount covered several preparations made ahead of the proposed tour, including:

Claimed Expenses Description
Venue bookings Reservation of event venues
Graphics and branding Promotional designs and materials
Visa processing Travel documentation expenses
Other logistics Additional preparations for the planned tour

The promoter insists the money was spent in anticipation of the performances, despite the tour never taking place.

Timi Dakolo’s Lawyers Reject the Allegations

In an official statement issued on July 18, 2026, Whitestone Solicitors and Consultancy, representing Timi Dakolo, dismissed the allegations in their entirety.

The legal team stated that a written Performance Agreement existed between Dakolo and Revolve Entertainment, clearly outlining the responsibilities of both parties.

According to the agreement, the promoter was responsible for handling all production-related expenses, including:

  • Sound and lighting
  • Technical production
  • Local event arrangements
  • Visa processing
  • Flight bookings
  • Accommodation
  • Transportation

The lawyers added that the only expenses Dakolo could potentially be responsible for were advertising and promotional costs, and only after receiving prior approval from him and his management team.

They also emphasized that the agreement did not require any deposit payment to the singer.

Legal Team Says Promoter Failed to Meet Contractual Obligations

Dakolo’s lawyers further argued that the proposed UK tour failed to hold because the promoter allegedly did not meet the professional production standards required under the agreement.

As a result, they maintained that the singer bears no financial responsibility for the cancelled event.

The statement said Dakolo “unequivocally denies” owing the promoter any money and described the allegations as damaging to his reputation.

Beyond denying the financial claims, Dakolo’s legal representatives accused the promoter of engaging in actions they described as:

  • Defamation
  • Cyberbullying
  • Harassment
  • Intimidation
  • Attempted blackmail
  • Sharing private information publicly
  • Making personal attacks against the singer

According to the legal team, these actions have caused unnecessary reputational damage and must stop immediately.

Demands Issued Before Court Action

The lawyers have given the promoter and anyone involved in spreading the allegations several demands, warning that failure to comply could lead to legal proceedings.

Demand Details
Stop the allegations Cease making or publishing false statements immediately
Remove all related posts Delete posts containing false claims or private information
Public retraction Publish a clear retraction of the allegations
Written apology Issue a public written apology within seven days on the same platforms
End further harassment Refrain from any additional attacks or intimidation

The legal team warned that if these conditions are not met within the stipulated period, Timi Dakolo will pursue full legal action against those involved in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The dispute now appears set to move beyond social media, with the singer’s legal representatives indicating they are prepared to seek judicial intervention if the matter is not resolved promptly.
