Terrorists Abandon 10 Kidnap Victims as Nigerian Troops Win Fierce Gun Battle in Sokoto

Nigerian troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued 10 kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists in a fierce gun battle in Gandi Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The successful rescue operation highlights the continued military offensive against kidnapping and armed banditry in Nigeria’s North-West, where security forces have intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across rural communities.

Troops Ambush Suspected Kidnappers During Intelligence-Led Operation

The operation was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on July 20, when troops from the 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base (FOB), Gandi, working alongside members of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, acted on credible intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists.

Security operatives tracked the suspects to Badanma village, where they intercepted them before launching a coordinated assault.

The intelligence-driven mission quickly escalated into a gun battle as the armed suspects resisted arrest.

Heavy Firepower Forces Terrorists to Escape

During the exchange of gunfire, security forces overwhelmed the suspected kidnappers with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into nearby surroundings.

The swift military response prevented the criminals from escaping with the victims.

According to reports, all 10 kidnapped victims were rescued safely without sustaining injuries.

The rescued individuals were immediately evacuated from the scene to a secure location for further care and assessment.

Security Forces Launch Manhunt for Escaping Suspects

Following the successful rescue, troops immediately began a pursuit operation to track down the fleeing terrorists.

Security personnel are continuing search operations across the area as part of broader efforts to arrest those responsible for the kidnapping and dismantle their operational bases.

Military operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA remain active across Sokoto State and neighbouring areas, targeting armed bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups threatening local communities.

Military, Community Guard Strengthen Security Partnership

The latest operation also underscores the growing collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps in tackling insecurity across the state.

The joint effort has become a key part of ongoing security operations aimed at protecting vulnerable communities, disrupting criminal activities, and restoring peace in areas frequently targeted by kidnappers and armed bandits.

Authorities say operations against criminal groups will continue as security agencies intensify pressure on terrorists operating across the North-West.
