Sanwo-Olu’s Appearance at Aisha Achimugu’s Grenada Birthday Party Sparks Fresh Debate Amid ₦8.9bn Asset Forfeiture

A viral video showing Babajide Sanwo-Olu attending businesswoman Aisha Achimugu’s lavish birthday celebration on the Caribbean island of Grenada has resurfaced online, drawing renewed attention as the entrepreneur faces mounting legal and financial scrutiny.
The footage, widely shared across social media platforms, captures the Lagos State governor among guests at the high-profile event, which reportedly took place shortly before Achimugu became the subject of investigations by federal authorities.
Tax Queries and EFCC Investigation
According to reports, Achimugu’s difficulties escalated after the celebration when the Federal Inland Revenue Service reportedly directed her to file outstanding tax returns.
The matter later expanded into an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which alleged that more than 136 bank accounts were linked to the businesswoman.
The anti-graft agency further claimed that funds that moved through companies associated with Achimugu were not declared as revenue in financial statements submitted to the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
Court Orders Permanent Forfeiture of Assets
In a significant development, a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the permanent forfeiture of assets worth approximately ₦8.9 billion linked to Achimugu.
The court-approved forfeiture covers luxury items, vehicles and cash holdings that investigators said were connected to the ongoing case.

The assets have now been permanently forfeited to the Federal Government in line with the court’s ruling.
The resurfaced Grenada party video has intensified public discussion because it shows senior political figures in attendance at an event that has since become linked to a major financial investigation.
While no allegation has been made against Governor Sanwo-Olu in connection with the EFCC case, the renewed circulation of the footage has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the optics of the high-profile celebration in light of the subsequent court-ordered forfeiture.
As legal proceedings continue, the case remains one of the most closely watched financial investigations involving a prominent Nigerian business figure in recent months.
