RMD Reflects on Life at 65: ‘I’m Living on Extra Time’
Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has shared an emotional reflection on turning 65, saying he now feels like he is “living an extra time” after surpassing the age his parents reached.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Moraya Show, the celebrated actor described his current stage of life as one filled with gratitude, adding that every new day feels like a blessing.
“Being 65, I feel like I am living an extra time right now. My parents didn’t make 60,” RMD said.
The screen icon explained that his outlook on life has been shaped by appreciation, noting that he is thankful to be alive and proud to witness a period where entrepreneurship and self-employment have become more common.
“My life is one of gratitude. I’m happy to be alive and Nigerian at this moment where more people are self-employed than ever in the world.”

The award-winning actor also addressed one of the questions fans ask him most often—how he has managed to maintain his youthful looks and energetic lifestyle despite being in his mid-sixties.
According to RMD, staying healthy starts with discipline.
“I eat right and exercise.”
However, he believes that physical fitness alone is not enough. He stressed that maintaining a youthful mindset has played an even bigger role in how he approaches life.
“There is something that I abide by which was said by another older person: the only way for an old person to stay young is to never let the old person in.”
The actor explained that he consciously refuses to embrace the stereotypes often associated with ageing, especially when it comes to his fashion choices and lifestyle.
Why RMD Refuses to Dress His Age
Known for his stylish appearances on and off the red carpet, RMD said he has no plans to abandon the fashionable image that has become part of his identity.
He revealed that even his eldest son, who is now 43, often reacts humorously whenever he steps out in one of his signature outfits.
“I do not in any way let the old person in. I could have been dressing like an old person, but I maintain classy fashion.”
“My eldest child is 43, and till today, he still looks at me whenever I dress and just hiss. But I’m not giving up now. There’s no way I’m going to give up.”
For RMD, staying young is not just about appearance, it is about maintaining confidence, embracing life with gratitude, and refusing to let age define his mindset.
