Davido Never Donated to My NGO, Paid for My Lagos Trip — VeryDarkMan Clears the Air
Nigerian social media personality and activist VeryDarkMan has dismissed long-standing claims that music superstar Davido financially supported him or contributed to his non-governmental organization (NGO).
The clarification comes months after reports of a fallout between the two public figures, ending a friendship that began in 2023 and attracted widespread attention on social media.
VeryDarkMan Says He Funded His Own Lagos Visit
VeryDarkMan explained that contrary to public belief, he personally paid for both his flight ticket and hotel accommodation when he traveled to Lagos to meet Davido in October 2023.
At the time, videos shared online suggested that the singer had hosted him in Lagos, leading many fans to believe Davido covered all the expenses.
Addressing the issue in a recent video, VeryDarkMan insisted that the impression was never corrected because everyone simply allowed the narrative to continue.
Speaking in Pidgin English, he said:
“Any time wey I talk something around Davido and maybe some people wey dey around Davido record, people go say, ‘After all what Davido has done for you. Davido flew you to Lagos, Davido has contributed to your NGO,’ and all those type of things.
“Today make I just address una. You see that time I went to Lagos to meet Davido, na me pay for my flight ticket, na me pay for the hotel wey I lodge. We just leave am like that for entertainment purposes.”
Influencer Denies Receiving NGO Donation From Davido
VeryDarkMan also denied reports that Davido donated money to his NGO.
According to him, he never requested financial assistance from the singer, despite Davido allegedly expressing interest in supporting the initiative.
He maintained that no money was ever received from the award-winning artist.
He added:
“They said Davido contributed to your NGO. That’s not true. I never asked him to make any contribution. He was the one who said he go do something, and I never asked him. Ask David if I’ve ever collected N1,000 from him before since he knows me.”

VeryDarkMan and Davido became close in October 2023 after the activist visited Lagos and spent time with the Afrobeats star.
Their interactions quickly became a trending topic, with many fans praising Davido for allegedly supporting the outspoken influencer.
However, the relationship has since cooled, and recent comments from VeryDarkMan suggest he wants to correct what he describes as misconceptions surrounding their friendship.
His latest remarks have sparked fresh reactions online, with social media users debating the true nature of the relationship and why the earlier public perception was allowed to stand for so long.
