Davido Declares Himself the Only Billionaire’s Son to Build Independent Fame and Fortune

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has boldly claimed that he is the only child of a billionaire anywhere in the world to have built both a successful career and a personal fortune independent of his family’s wealth.
The award-winning singer made the statement during a recent appearance on the Vibe Podcast, where he reflected on his journey in the music industry and the challenges he faced because of his privileged background.
Davido Says His Wealthy Background Worked Against Him
Davido, the son of Nigerian billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, explained that coming from a wealthy family was not always an advantage. According to him, many fans initially struggled to accept his music because they preferred “grass-to-grace” success stories over artists born into wealth.
He noted that earning respect in the entertainment industry required proving himself through hard work, consistency, and delivering hit records despite the criticism surrounding his family background.
Claims He Built His Own Legacy
Speaking confidently about his achievements, Davido said he has created a name for himself that stands on its own, separate from his family’s business empire.
According to the singer, it is extremely rare for children of billionaires to establish global recognition while also building significant personal wealth through their own careers.
He said:
“Not to brag, but which other billionaire’s child do you know, not just in Africa but in the world, that has made a name for himself and also made a lot of money?
“You can’t name one apart from me.”
Statement Sparks Debate Online
Davido’s remarks have already generated conversations across social media, with many fans praising his impressive rise in the global music industry, while others questioned whether his claim is entirely accurate.
Over the years, the singer has grown into one of Africa’s biggest music exports, releasing multiple chart-topping projects, selling out international arenas, and securing endorsement deals with major brands.
