Falz Clears the Air on Peter Obi, Says He Has Never Endorsed Any Nigerian Politician

Nigerian rapper, singer, and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has dismissed claims that he publicly supported the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, or any other politician.
The award-winning artiste made the clarification during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television on Tuesday, where he addressed long-standing assumptions about his political stance.
Falz Says He Has Never Backed Any Political Candidate
Speaking during the interview, Falz explained that while he has consistently encouraged Nigerians to participate in elections, he has never openly endorsed any political party or presidential candidate.
According to him, his focus has always been on promoting civic responsibility rather than campaigning for politicians.
“Just a point of correction. I never openly supported Peter Obi or any politician or party in 2023 or at any point. I have actively encouraged people to go out and vote.”
The entertainer stressed that encouraging citizens to vote should not be mistaken for political endorsement.
Calls on Nigerians to Participate in Elections
Falz urged Nigerians, especially young people, to remain actively involved in the country’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said voting remains one of the most important ways citizens can shape the nation’s future and strengthen democracy.
According to him, public participation is essential if Nigerians hope to see meaningful political progress.
Falz Wants a Stronger Democracy, Not Political Loyalty
The rapper also explained why he has avoided publicly aligning himself with any politician.
He noted that his commitment has always been to supporting a transparent and credible democratic process rather than individual political figures.
“I clamour for a free and fair democratic process. I haven’t stuck out my neck for any politician for obvious reasons.”
Singer Questions Nigeria’s Political Leadership
Falz also expressed concern over what he described as a recurring cycle in Nigeria’s political system, saying the country continues to recycle the same political class without delivering the level of leadership many citizens expect.
He added that the current political climate makes it difficult for him to confidently endorse any Nigerian politician.
“I think it’s very important to strengthen our democracy in this country. We’ve been going in cycles, and it just seems like almost the same crop of people we keep on reshuffling, and at the end of the day, it’s tough to even sit anywhere and vouch for a Nigerian politician in 2026.”
Falz Reaffirms Neutral Political Position
Falz’s latest comments put to rest speculation surrounding his alleged support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
While he continues to advocate for increased voter participation and democratic accountability, the entertainer maintains that he has never publicly endorsed Peter Obi, the NDC, or any other political party or candidate.
His message remains centered on encouraging Nigerians to exercise their voting rights while holding elected leaders accountable, regardless of political affiliation.
