Police arrest suspects, recover stolen motorcycles in Ondo crackdown

The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its campaign against motorbike theft, recovering stolen bikes throughout the state and apprehending suspects in different operations. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi K. Jimoh made the announcement in a statement on April 26, 2026.
The statement claims that the arrests came after intelligence-driven operations by various police divisions that targeted theft syndicates thought to be active in strategic areas.
During one of the raids, a suspect named Joseph James was apprehended by Funbi-Fagun Division personnel in the early hours of 9 April when he was trying to transport a stolen motorbike out of Ondo town.
The black Boxer motorbike that was allegedly stolen the day before was found during the operation, according to the police.
Around 04:30, the suspect was apprehended while trying to transport the stolen motorbike. While attempts are continue to apprehend his accomplice, he has offered helpful statements, according to the statement. In a different incident on April 22, 2026, Raji Akeem, another suspect, was taken into custody in Akure’s Shasha neighbourhood after reportedly robbing a homeowner of a motorbike.
The suspect is currently seeking medical attention after being attacked by a mob before police intervened, according to police, who said the guy was caught while attempting to dispose of the bike. While investigations continue to uncover other people connected to the case, the discovered motorbike has been secured.
In the meantime, Enu Owa Division agents also documented a breakthrough in an earlier case from October 2025 that resulted in Adedigba Adeola’s arrest.
He was charged with tricking a commercial motorcyclist by pretending to go on a trip before stealing the victim’s bike.
The suspect then admitted to the crime, saying he concealed the motorbike before selling it to someone else, according to the police.
The command said, “The suspect confessed to being the principal actor and provided details of how the motorbike was concealed and later sold.”
The stolen motorbike and additional individuals involved in the transaction are being sought after, according to the police.
Adebowale Lawal, the state’s commissioner of police, responded to the operations by praising the officers for their quick and well-coordinated reactions and stating that the command is still dedicated to breaking up criminal networks.
The leadership emphasised that community participation is still essential in combating crime and advised locals to be watchful and report suspicious activity.
