Former Deputy Governor Madumere Defects From APC

Eze Madumere, a former deputy governor of Imo State, formally left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming the need to refocus his political involvement on democratic principles and improved service delivery. A declaration letter delivered to the PDP in Imo State detailed Madumere’s defection.

The former deputy governor stated in the letter that he joined the PDP because he wanted to bring like-minded people together to reinstate citizens’ democratic rights and privileges.

Additionally, he made a commitment to transparent governance, innovation, and youth empowerment.

“I think it becomes appropriate to build a new platform when one’s current one is no longer serving the people’s purpose,” he said.

“I’ve decided to officially tell you that I’m leaving the APC and joining the PDP. This will allow me to contribute my share to the country’s progress from an other angle,” he continued.

Madumere said that his defection was a turning point in his political career and that it came after careful deliberation with his family, mentors, and supporters.

He appreciated the connections he made while in the party and thanked the APC for the chances it gave him, including the position of Deputy Governor of Imo State.

He insisted, however, that his departure was motivated more by necessity than by malice.

“I’ve accepted that I can no longer be an extension of a party that regularly engages in the practice of rewarding loyalty without repaying loyalty of disrespecting and excluding members who have stuck their lives for the unity, progress, and development of society,” Madumere said.

He said that he was unable to keep his word to the people because of internal strife within the APC, a loss of ideological focus, and disdain for members.

He declared, “Staying there will be a disservice to the very people who once elected me as Imo State’s deputy governor.”
