Police Arrest Suspect, Foil Robbery Attack in Uyo

Over the weekend, Akwa Ibom State Police Command officers stopped a robbery attempt at Ikot Okubo village in Uyo Local Government Area, detained one suspect, and found a locally manufactured pistol.
In a statement released in Uyo on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, stated that the action was taken in response to a distress call from a local citizen.
“On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Command personnel on stop and search duty along the Mayflower axis of Oron Road, Uyo, promptly responded to a distress call from a worried resident of Ikot Okubo Village, Uyo Local Government Area, reporting that suspected armed robbers were actively operating within the community.”
In response to the information, police officers quickly mobilised to the spot, where they worked with watchful young people in the neighbourhood to block off and search the affected area.
“One suspect, Edidiong Udoeyen, was apprehended as a result of the coordinated operation, and a medium sized locally manufactured firearm was found in his possession,” the police spokeswoman stated.
According to John, additional criminal gang members left the area as soon as they saw the police, and the Command has started a manhunt right away to capture the escaping criminals and make sure they are prosecuted.
She said that the state’s commissioner of police, CP Baba Mohhammed Azare, promised to be prepared to defend people and property while purging the state of all crimes and criminality while praising the bravery, alertness, and prompt action of community members.
