Police in Plateau State have arrested four suspects in connection with the brutal mob killing of Jos-based model and University of Jos graduate, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee.”
Authorities confirmed that six people were directly involved in the deadly attack, while security operatives are continuing efforts to track down the remaining two suspects.
Police Confirm Arrests as Investigation Deepens
Speaking on Tuesday in Jos, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, disclosed that the command received information from a Good Samaritan about a young man who had been rushed to a hospital in critical condition after being violently attacked.
According to him, despite medical efforts, the victim later died from the severe injuries he sustained.
Following the report, police immediately launched an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects. During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted to playing different roles in the attack.
Police later arrested a fourth suspect, bringing the total number of suspects currently in custody to four.
Police Name Key Suspects in the Attack
DSP Alabo revealed that investigators have identified Emmanuel Newyear as one of the principal suspects allegedly seen striking the victim repeatedly with a wooden plank during the attack.
Another suspect, Joshua Tell, was also apprehended as the investigation progressed.
The police maintained that investigations are ongoing and vowed that every individual involved in the killing would be brought to justice.
Police Working With NANS to Ensure Justice
The Plateau State Police Command said it has been collaborating closely with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) throughout the investigation.
According to the police spokesman, representatives of NANS attended the public parade of the arrested suspects as a demonstration of their condemnation of the killing and their support for efforts to secure justice for the deceased.
Police Warn Against Jungle Justice
The command strongly condemned mob violence, stressing that no individual has the legal right to take the law into their own hands.
Police urged members of the public to report criminal allegations to law enforcement agencies rather than resorting to jungle justice, warning that anyone found participating in mob attacks would face the full weight of the law.
The command also appealed to residents with useful information about the incident to come forward, assuring them that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The killing of Ibrahim Mbaya has sparked widespread outrage across Jos, with residents, students, and civil society organizations demanding swift justice for the slain model.
Many have also renewed calls for tougher action against mob violence in Plateau State, urging authorities to hold everyone connected to the attack accountable while intensifying public awareness against jungle justice.
As investigations continue, police insist that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects and ensure that all those responsible are prosecuted.
