Ex-FUOYE SUG President James Adio Speaks on Leaked Private Video, Says Tiwa Savage’s Story Inspired Him to Stay Strong

Former President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), James Adio, has spoken publicly about the emotional impact of his leaked private video, revealing that Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage’s experience with a similar controversy gave him the courage to move forward.

Speaking during a recent interview, Adio described the incident as one of the most challenging moments of his life but insisted that he refused to let it define his future.

James Adio Says Tiwa Savage’s Experience Gave Him Hope

According to Adio, he drew strength from how Tiwa Savage handled the backlash after her own private video surfaced online years ago.

He explained that seeing a public figure recover from such a widely discussed scandal reminded him that setbacks do not have to end a person’s journey.

“Tiwa Savage faced something like this. I’m not even half of where she was, but she overcame. I have not come this far to give up.”

Adio said those thoughts helped him remain determined despite the intense criticism that followed the circulation of the video.

He Was Unaware of How Viral the Video Had Become

Adio revealed that he initially had no idea how widely the video had spread across social media.

He explained that it was only after checking his phone later that he realized the scale of the reactions, discussions, and online attention the incident had generated.

The former student leader admitted that the experience was overwhelming but said he chose to focus on rebuilding rather than dwelling on the controversy.

Family and Friends Helped Him Through the Ordeal

Despite the public criticism, Adio said he received strong support from family members, former students, and close friends.

He particularly praised his mother for standing by him throughout the difficult period, describing her encouragement as one of the biggest reasons he remained emotionally strong.

According to him, the support from those closest to him prevented him from giving up during one of the lowest moments of his life.

Adio Reflects on His Time as FUOYE SUG President

Looking back at his student leadership journey, Adio recalled winning the FUOYE SUG presidential election after defeating 13 other candidates.

He said the victory reflected the confidence students had in his leadership and the work he carried out while serving as SUG president.

Adio noted that, despite the controversies that later surrounded him, he remains proud of his achievements during his tenure.

Controversies That Surrounded His Final Months at FUOYE

Adio’s latest comments come months after he became the center of multiple controversies at the university.

In June, FUOYE suspended him over allegations that about ₦700,000 collected as unauthorized levies from newly admitted students had been traced to his personal bank account.

Not long after the suspension, a private video allegedly involving him surfaced online and quickly went viral, sparking widespread conversations across social media.

The university also later announced the suspension of two students over allegations of cyberbullying and blackmail linked to the circulation of the video.

James Adio Signs Out, Looks Ahead to a Fresh Beginning

Despite the controversies that marked the closing chapter of his university life, James Adio has now completed his academic programme and officially signed out of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

With his undergraduate studies now behind him, the former student leader says he is focused on moving forward and starting a new chapter beyond campus life.
