Nigerian musician, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has smashed the all-time record for most monthly listeners by an African artist in Spotify history.
The “African Giant” crooner has surpassed South African artist Tyla’s previous African record of 46.58 million monthly Spotify listeners, reaching 46.84 million.
With 47.3 million monthly Spotify listeners, Burna Boy is on track to become the first African artist to reach 50 million monthly listeners.
His World Cup single with Shakira, “Dai Dai,” is the main factor driving the increase in streams.
Burna Boy is the first African artist to top the Spotify Global Top Songs chart since Wizkid made his debut on it in 2016 with his duet with Drake on “One Dance.” The song recently reached the top of the chart.
