Abia police arrest 226 suspects, rescue abducted children

According to the Abia State Police Command, between January and April 2, 2026, 142 cases of various criminal crimes were reported, resulting in the arrest of 226 people. While briefing reporters in his office on Thursday, CP Danladi Isa, the Commissioner of Police for Abia State Command, revealed that several of the cases had been thoroughly investigated and charged in court.

He also mentioned that some suspects had been placed on remand in correctional facilities while others were being prosecuted.

In addition to claiming that 32 weapons were found during the raids, he stated that the Command looked into 13 cult-related crimes, detained 23 individuals, and arraigned them in court before remanding them in correctional custody.

The Commissioner stressed that the initiatives were a part of the Command’s zero-tolerance for cultism and its commitment to peace and security throughout the State, adding that five cult-related crimes are now being investigated.

He declared that the Command had broken criminal networks operating within the State, seized 46 firearms of various specifications, 16 rounds of ammunition/cartridges, and saved a number of trafficked/stolen minors.

According to CP Danladi Isa, “these persistent operational efforts have significantly contributed to the reduction of crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, defilement and rape, child trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms, stealing, burglary, assault occasioning harm, malicious damage, and advance fee fraud, among others.”

He added that during that time, abducted victims were rescued and stolen cars, motorbikes, and auto-rickshaws (tricycles) were recovered.
