The MTN Foundation has officially opened applications for the 2026 edition of its MUSON Music Scholars Programme, marking two decades of its long-standing partnership with the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON).

The scholarship initiative, which began in 2006, has provided fully funded professional music education to more than 500 talented young Nigerians, helping aspiring musicians build successful careers regardless of their financial background.

Over 500 Young Musicians Have Benefited Since 2006

For the past 20 years, the MTN Foundation and MUSON have worked together to develop Nigeria’s next generation of music professionals through quality education and practical training.

The programme removes financial barriers by providing successful applicants with scholarships that cover:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Required textbooks
  • Approved course-related expenses throughout the duration of study

The initiative is designed for young Nigerians who meet the admission requirements of the MUSON School of Music and demonstrate exceptional musical talent and passion.

MTN Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria’s Creative Industry

Speaking on the 20-year milestone, MTN Foundation Executive Director, Odunayo Sanya, described the partnership as proof that long-term investment in young talent continues to produce meaningful results.

According to her, the vision from the beginning was to ensure talented Nigerians were not denied access to professional music education simply because of financial limitations.

She noted that more than 500 beneficiaries have received world-class training through the programme, enabling many to pursue successful careers in music and the wider creative industry.

Sanya added that while the anniversary celebrates two decades of achievements, the Foundation remains focused on supporting the next generation of musicians who will shape the future of Nigeria’s creative sector.

Scholarship Provides More Than Financial Support

Beyond funding education, the MUSON Music Scholars Programme equips students with professional training, technical knowledge, discipline, and industry-standard skills required to build sustainable careers in music.

The programme has become one of the MTN Foundation’s flagship education initiatives, contributing significantly to youth empowerment while strengthening Nigeria’s growing creative economy.

As Nigeria’s music industry continues to attract international recognition, initiatives like the MUSON scholarship are expected to play an even bigger role in developing highly skilled professionals capable of competing on the global stage.
