Bukky Wright Sparks Debate, Tells Women: ‘Don’t Dig Anything Less Than Gold’

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has stirred reactions after encouraging women to maintain high standards in relationships and ignore criticism over financial expectations.

The actress made the remarks during a recent appearance on The Moraya Show, where she challenged the common use of the term “gold digger” to shame women who expect financial security or prefer successful partners.

Bukky Wright Defends Women With High Standards

Speaking during the interview, Wright questioned why women are often criticized for seeking financially stable partners, arguing that there is nothing wrong with expecting a comfortable lifestyle in a relationship.

According to the Nollywood star, women should never feel embarrassed about having high expectations, especially when it comes to choosing a partner.

“I hate it when I hear men calling women gold diggers. What do you expect her to dig before? I won’t advise any woman to dig anything less than gold.”

Her comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with many agreeing with her stance while others believe relationships should be built on more than financial capability.

Actress Advises Men to Date Within Their Means

Wright also had advice for men, urging them to pursue relationships they can comfortably sustain instead of criticizing women whose expectations exceed their financial capacity.

According to her, many of the complaints about women being “gold diggers” stem from men pursuing partners whose lifestyles they cannot afford.

“If you cannot afford a woman, don’t go for her. Go for the one you can afford.”

She added that understanding one’s financial reality can help prevent unnecessary conflicts and unrealistic expectations in relationships.

Reflecting on Her Younger Years

Sharing her personal experience, the actress recalled that while growing up, many young women were reluctant to date men in their age group because they often lacked the financial stability needed to support a serious relationship.

She explained that relationships become difficult when there is a significant gap between a woman’s lifestyle and a man’s earning capacity.

“I remember when I was growing up, we would not date our age mates because what can you offer?

As a man, if you are dating somebody that her level is higher up, then you are in trouble. That is why I said cut your clothes according to your materials.”

Comments Ignite Fresh Conversation Online

Bukky Wright’s remarks have reignited the long-running debate about money, expectations, and gender roles in modern relationships.

While some social media users praised her for encouraging women to value themselves and avoid settling, others argued that successful relationships should prioritize love, mutual respect, and shared values over financial status.

Her comments continue to generate mixed reactions, adding another voice to the ongoing discussion about financial expectations in dating and marriage.
