A fresh wave of sorrow has swept through Jigawa State after search teams recovered four more bodies from the scene of a deadly canoe accident in Malamawar Yandutse, Ringim Local Government Area, including a prospective bride and a groom who were preparing for their weddings.
The latest recovery brings the confirmed death toll from the tragic incident to 10, while concerns remain over the fate of other passengers who are still unaccounted for.
Four Additional Bodies Recovered
The Village Head of Malamawar Yandutse, Umar Habibu, confirmed that search and rescue teams recovered two bodies on Monday evening and another two on Tuesday morning after continuing operations along the river.

According to the village head, six victims had already been buried earlier, while the newly recovered bodies were laid to rest shortly after they were found.
He explained that two of the victims recovered on Monday evening were buried the same day, while the remaining two recovered on Tuesday morning were buried near the riverside because their bodies had already begun decomposing.
Bride and Groom Among the Victims
The tragedy has become even more heartbreaking after residents revealed that two of the deceased were preparing for their weddings.
Eighteen-year-old Khadija Malam Sagiru was reportedly scheduled to get married this Saturday before her life was cut short in the accident.
Another victim, Nazifi Magaji, was also preparing for his wedding, which was expected to take place next month.
Their deaths have left both families and the local community mourning what many described as a devastating loss of young lives and future dreams.
Canoe Was Carrying About 40 Passengers
The accident occurred when a canoe transporting approximately 40 passengers, most of them women and children, capsized while travelling across the river in Ringim Local Government Area.
Emergency responders managed to rescue 23 passengers, while six bodies were initially recovered shortly after the incident.
With four more bodies now found, the confirmed number of fatalities has increased to 10.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional passengers remain missing as search efforts continue.
Emergency Agency Confirms Latest Recovery
The Director of Planning at the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Muhammad Bala Sanusi, confirmed the recovery of the four additional victims.
Officials say rescue teams have remained at the scene since the accident, working with local volunteers and community members to search the river for anyone still missing.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of water transportation in many rural communities, where overloaded boats, poor safety measures, and the absence of life jackets continue to contribute to fatal accidents.

Residents of Malamawar Yandutse have continued to mourn the victims, especially the young bride-to-be and groom whose lives ended before they could begin their new families.
